- Travel with photographer Gavriel Jecan on this exciting photo expedition into the ancient heart of Indochina and create a treasure-trove of incredible images. From the Chinese border in the north to the Mekong Delta in the south, Vietnam is a diverse country with unmatched tropical scenery. In the north, Bac Ha market and the small village of Sapa are nestled among emerald rice paddies, pine forest and high mountains and are covered in lush tropical vegetation. In the valleys, we’ll photograph people dressed in traditional clothing representing 10 different minority groups in the Sunday market (Dzao, Flower Hamong, Han, Xa Fang, Nuang, Phula, Giay, Thulao and Thai). In northeastern Vietnam, limestone cliffs and towers evoke the landscape of Guilin, China. We will photograph dozens of stunning sea stacks and uninhabited islands ringed with empty beaches dot the waters of Halong Bay, as well as traditional junk boats. South of Hanoi, lazy rivers meander through narrow lush valleys green with rice paddies and vertical limestone walls. Life in the villages follows the rhythms of centuries, as farmers sell their wares in floating markets, cultivate their land, and tend to livestock. Cities like Hanoi, in contrast, are fast paced. After the final day, take an optional Angkor Wat trip extension to Siem Reap, Cambodia, to photograph one of the most magical temples in the world. This course is limited to ten students!
