Gavriel Jecan began photographing
in Romania at the age of 10, shooting black and white with a Russian camera, often on hiking trips with his father in the mountains. His love of nature and travel evolved into rock climbing, and Jecan competed on the University climbing team national and international.
In 1986, Jecan literally climbed his way out of Communist Romania, escaping to Greece via Rodopi mountains (Bulgaria).
After immigrating to the
United States, Jecan began
his career as a professional photographer. His love of nature and sports give him unique
perspectives that he
incorporates in his photography. And he has taken up the profession with enormous passion and success.
Gavriel Jecan joined world
renown photographer Art Wolfe Inc.
in 1994, and has been on a
majority of the major trips that Wolfe has made worldwide. The quality and scope of Jecan’s shooting quickly gained him representation by the worlds largest international stock photography agencies.
Jecan
has published a number of children books:
C for Coyote , Wild Colors,
Alaska Animal Babies,
and Hide and Seek.
He shares cover credit with
Art Wolfe for his photographs in
Colorado and Pacific Northwest (Sasquatch Books Publishing Co.),
Frogs, The Nature of Lions (Firefly Publisher).
He was a contributor to the
international book
Megadiversity.
Jecan is an accomplished
videographer and his work been
aired on network television.
He shot footage for the video
adventure program The
Living Wild and other
video assignments.
Jecan’s images continue to appear regularly as
stock photographs in magazines
worldwide, including International Wildlife, Backpacker, National Geographic, Midwest Express, Nature Foto( Germany) German GEO, Outside, Sinra (Japan) and Terre Sauvage (France). His work has been featured in international ad campaigns for Hasselblad. Jecan continues to pursue specialties in nature, wildlife, landscapes, travel, historical architecture,
and indigenous peoples.
